Since Gutenberg is set as default editor in the latest version of WordPress, some are trying to back to classic editor. In this step by step guide I’m going to show you how to Replace Gutenberg With Classic Editor.
Do you want to disable Gutenberg and back to Classic editor for your WordPress site? You can use classic editor in two ways.
- Disable Gutenberg & use only Classic editor
- Use Gutenberg along with Classic WordPress editor
However, in this article I’m showing how to disable Gutenberg and use only Classic editor. In another article I’ll show how to use Classic editor along with Classic WordPress editor.
Disable Gutenberg & use only Classic editor
Follow the steps below to disable Gutenberg and use only the Classic editor. Remember, you can come back to Gutenberg whenever you want.
Step 1: Install and Activate Disable Gutenberg Plugin
First of all install Disable Gutenberg plugin. To install go to WordPress Plugins directory from your Dashboard. For this you can navigate to Dashboard->Plugins->Add New and in the search box type the keyword Disable Gutenberg.
You will see a couple of plugins. Install the right one like given in the screenshot.

After successful installation Activate the plugin from there. You can also do it from the Plugin section of WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2: Complete Disable Gutenberg from Settings
Now head over to Disable Gutenberg Tab from Settings of Dashboard. You can also navigate to Dashboard->Settings->Disable Gutenberg

From this page tick the Checkbox named for Complete Disable. This will Disable Gutenberg everywhere of your WordPress site. Finally click on the the Save Changes button.
Doing this you will be back to old Classic editor of WordPress.
If you want to switch to Classic editor but keep the Gutenberg read disable Gutenberg and keep the WordPress Classic Editor.
