How to login into a WordPress site using the phone number

WordPress is a great platform for managing websites, and phone numbers can be a great way to add an extra layer of security to the login process. Not only is it more convenient than having to remember a username and password, but it also makes it harder for hackers to gain access to your account.

Luckily, there are plugins available that make it easy to add this feature to your site. In this article, we’ve shown you how to log in to a WordPress site using a phone number using the WordPress plugin.
Here we use the Login with Phone Number plugin. This can be a convenient way to log in if you don’t have your username or password handy, or if you just prefer using your phone number as a form of authentication.

The WooCommerce Phone Number Sign-in also makes it easier for you to keep track of orders, as well as for customers to easily sign in with their phone numbers. Plus, it is an added security measure for your store and customer safety. You can verify that customers are genuine, preventing fake orders from being placed.

There are several plugins you can use. (See the list below for some examples.)

One plugin, Registration & Login with Mobile Phone Number, allows you to create an OTP (one-time password) login form for your users.

Another plugin name is Digits: WordPress Mobile Phone Number OTP Signup and Login Form. This plugin helps you create a login form for your WooCommerce store that uses your customer’s mobile numbers as their username and password. You can also add custom fields to this form to gather more information from your customers.

And the last plugin is Login With Mobile Number for WooCommerce. This plugin provides a simple way for your customers to sign in to your WooCommerce store using their mobile phone numbers. It includes fields for Username and Password, as well as a dedicated Menu Item so that it’s easy to add this feature to your website.

In this tutorial, we will discuss only the “Login with Phone Number” plugin,

Follow my paths:

Step 1: Install the Activate the Login with Phone Number Plugin

Access your WordPress dashboard,
Then navigate to the Plugins >> Add New >> into the search box in the top right corner [Login with Phone Number]

Click on the “Install Now” button.
After that, click on the “Activate” button.

Step 2: Create a New Login/Register Page

To add a plugin’s shortcode on a page,

WP dashboard >> Page >> Add New.

Write down a title for the new page, such as, “Login.”

Then Put the [idehweb_lwp] shortcode inside it.

login details

After that, Publish the page

Step 3: Create a New Login/Register Page

When a new user makes an account on your WooCommerce store, a verification code will be sent to their mobile number.

So, for the plugin to work the way it was meant to, you will need to provide an SMS gateway.

Here we use Firebase from Google. It offers free OTP text messages at a rate of 10,000 per month.

Let’s start the process:

Click on this link: Firebase

And Firebase Console will automatically sign you into your Google account.

After that, click the “Create a Project” button.

firebase

Now, you have to set a name for the new project,

  • Accept ### I accept the Firebase terms and,
  • Accept  ### I confirm that I will use Firebase exclusively for purposes relating to my trade, business, craft, or profession.

Then click on Continue Button.

Complete all the steps to create a project.

Once you have created a project successfully,

Now you have to go to the left sidebar,
On the Build dropdown menu, choose Authentication. Then, Click the Get started button.

Here you have to Pick a Phone as a provider.

Switch the toggle, and you will see it at the top of the right corner. Don’t forget to click the Save button.

Click on the settings tab, and you will get a dashboard.

On that page, select the Authorized Domains section.

Click the “Add domain” button and enter the domain name of your WooCommerce store.

Then click the “Add” button.

Now, go to the Templates tab. After that, click on the pencil icon, like in the screenshot below.

Here you have to choose the language you prefer to be used for SMS verification.

Now, click on the gear icon, as shown in the screenshot below, to choose the project settings.

After that, scroll down, and you will get the “Your apps” section. In that section, click on the web icon.

It will get you to Add Firebase to your web app page. Set an App nickname for your new app. Then click the “Register app” button.

Choose the “Use a tag” option and copy the scripts.

add firebase SDK

Now, we have to get back to the WordPress dashboard, and on the dashboard click on the “login setting” menu.
Paste the script code into the Firebase config box. Do not forget to save it. Scroll down and you will see the Save Changes button.

Again, go back to the Firebase and copy the API keywords that are provided in the scripts. Just like the screenshot below:

add firebase SDK

Go back to the WordPress login setting dashboard. Paste the API key into the Firebase API box,

Don’t forget to save it. Scroll down, and you will see the Save Changes button.

Why should you use a Phone Number sign-in in your WooCommerce store?

How many times have your customers abandoned an online purchase because they couldn’t be bothered to go through the registration process?

It’s a common problem, and it can lead to a lot of lost sales for eCommerce businesses.

With the help of a phone number login to WooCommerce, you can boost conversions on your WooCommerce store.

With the phone number sign-in feature, buyers can log in to your store without having to remember their username and password.

You can also confirm a customer’s phone number by sending them a one-time password (OTP) via SMS. This not only makes the login process simpler and faster for your customers, but it also helps to improve security in your store.

Buyers can log in without having to remember their username and password.

Another advantage of this feature is that it helps you keep track of your customers. If a customer signs in through their phone number, you can immediately see whether or not they’ve made any purchases and which items they’ve bought.

Moreover, by verifying customers through their phone numbers, you can be sure that they are genuine and therefore prevent fake orders. This feature will prevent fake orders from being placed in your store.
